Okay, I just found this product at my local Longs Drugs: Chef 5 Minute Meals. Shelf-stable 9 oz. meals that cook in the box. Insane. You open up the foil-lined box and there's a tray of food, a little magnesium pad and a bag of salt water, all in a Styrofoam tray. Pour the water over the magnesium, lay the food on top, then slide the foam tray back into the box. In seconds the salt water reacts with the magnesium and steam starts to pour out of the box (it's hard to see in the cellcam picture, but there are wisps of steam visible.) The food heats up to 195° and in 5 - 10 minutes (depending how hot you want it to get), soup's on. Or Chicken Parmesan, rather. The taste reminds me of Spaghetti-O's from when I was a kid, but the stuff's definitely edible in a pinch. And, just for curiosity factor alone, it's way too fun. Makes me think you could toss the food packet away and heat pretty much whatever else you wanted.
