Army Of What?

For the first time since January, the Army has met its monthly recruiting goal of 5,650. They actually exceeded the number by some 500 recruits, mostly due to the Army widening their standards to include stray dogs, cats and garden gnomes.

Petty Putin

New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft was showing Russian President Vladimir Putin his diamond-encrusted 2005 SuperBowl at a recent meeting with US business executives. Putin tried it on, then put it in his pocket and left. Kraft later said the ring was a gift. What's the big deal? It's hardly the first time a world leader has been entrusted with something valuable, only to do away with it first chance he gets.

State Of The Union: Critical

President Bush used his State of the Union address last night to once again try to link the war in Iraq with the 9/11 attacks. Critics of the President said he's not facing reality, while his supporters not only agreed with the President's remarks but hoped he was going to add another color to the terror alert levels, like maybe purple.

Up In The Air

The search engine Google has unveiled their newest service which gives you a satellite view of every place on the planet from less than 2,000 feet up. They've dubbed the service "Google Earth", although the runner-up name was "Where In The World Is Osama Sandiego?"

South Korean baseball team Doosan Bears' Park Myung-hwan pitches as his cap and a frozen cabbage leaf fall during a recent baseball game. South Korea's baseball players have been banned from putting frozen cabbage leaves under their caps to beat the summer heat. However, anabolic steroids are still a-okay.

Ventriloquist Paul Winchell passed away this past weekend at the age of 82. Friends and family members heard him calling for help, but couldn't figure out what room he was in.

A scientist at UC Berkeley says that ethanol, the so-called "renewable fuel", takes six times as much energy to make as it actually produces. Now that it's been made clear how wasteful ethanol is, the world's oil and car companies are expected to embrace it.

Yesterday was Gay Pride Day in San Francisco, highlighted by a huge parade led by 600 Dykes on Bikes. Two hundred groups marched, culminating with Arkansas' 3-member Hicks With Dicks.

Untied Nations

President Bush will not be attending this Sunday's 60th anniversary of the signing of the United Nations charter in San Francisco. It's either another shrewd bid to up his 34% approval rating or maybe he's just afraid they'll make him marry a gay man while he's in town.
