I am bummed that the special election initiatives that Governor Schwarzenegger was backing in California lost. Not because I was supporting them, but now we've got to put up with him doing his "I'll be back" Terminator thing for another two years.

Goodswill Ambassador

President Robert Mugabe told Christopher Dell, the U.S. ambassador to Zimbabwe, to "go to hell" on Tuesday after the envoy blamed the country's economic and political crisis on mismanagement and corrupt rule. Mugabe later apologized when he learned Dell had been talking about the United States.

Do As We Say, Not As We Do

International election monitors said Monday that Azerbaijan's parliamentary election on Sunday had been tainted by fraud and abuse and failed to meet democratic standards. And to think some pundits throught it would be decades before a true democracy returned to the region!

By late Monday, the civil unrest sweeping France spread to nearly every major city in the country, and even touched two cities elsewhere in Europe as the French government sought to reassure a jittery nation that it can bring the situation under control. Unfortunately, history is no help with this one -- the last time this happened in France, I think the suggestion to quell the unruly populace was "let them eat cake."
