According to an AP report, 25-year-old Emmalee Bauer got fired from her job as a sales coordinator at the Sheraton Hotel in Des Moines, Iowa, for misuse of company time. When she sued to get unemployment benefits, she was denied when it was revealed that she'd written a 300-page journal during work hours, mainly detailing how much company time she wasted and describing her efforts to keep from actually working.
"This typing thing seems to be doing the trick," she wrote. "It just looks like I am hard at work on something very important." Further details followed: "I am only here for the money and, lately, for the printer access. I haven't really accomplished anything in a long while ... and I am still getting paid more than I ever have at a job before, with less to do than I have ever had before. It's actually quite nice when I think of it that way. I can shop online, play games and read message boards and still get paid for it."
She kept the journal on her computer at the office, where it was discovered at the end of last year. In the journal, Bauer fantasized that it might someday be published. Since you just read part of it here, I guess her dreams have come true.
